Cirque of Tarns

Page 260-263
The 2023 Wells Gray trail crew built 3 boardwalks across the wet meadow and re-routed the trail closer to Caligata Creek so it is drier. The rest of the trail was brushed and cleared of deadfalls up to where it emerges from the forest below the north face of Raft Mountain. The 2025 trail crew improved the trail even more, so it is clearly defined now. Ignore my comments on page 261 that it is “seriously overgrown” and obscured by shrubbery. Also ignore the paragraph at the bottom of page 261 because the boardwalk means you no longer need waterproof boots. There are still a few muddy sections near the boardwalks and perhaps a future trail crew will extend the boardwalks.

Page 262 — The “Woods” trail at the large boulder is certainly the best one. It’s easy to follow and the broken trees from the avalanche have been cleared.

Page 263 — In August 2025, pink flagging on wire stems was added to mark a suggested route up the grass and heather tongue. These markers may be lost if an avalanche hits this area. After crossing the boulder field, look for orange flagging tape tied to tree branches which marks the route to Crystal Lake Pass.
