33 hectares added to Park

In November 2023, the BC Government announced that 33 hectares had been added to Wells Gray Park. This is the new ranger house at the end of Boundary Road. The long-time owners lived in Europe and were seldom here. They sold it to BC Parks for a low price. BC Assessment says it was sold for $775,000 which is more than its assessment on July 1, 2023. However, some of that was written off as a donation and the owners received a charitable receipt. This happened in 2022 and the sale was registered on July 19, 2022. During the summer of 2023, the house was well used by the ranger, the two naturalists, and the two trail crew members. It’s a great benefit to have the two Ranger houses because the original one at the park entrance was very busy in the summer.
