The 2023 Wells Gray trail crew has brushed and cleared deadfalls from the lower part of this trail, so the reference on page 332 to the trail being “heavily overgrown” has fortunately changed. In July, the crew flagged the shortest route from the U-turn bend through dense undergrowth to the barren hillside below the south end of The Flatiron. Follow the directions on page 333 to reach the top of The Flatiron. The crew continued flagging the route west to Hemp Falls, so that should be easier to find now. Plans are for the 2024 trail crew to build a spur trail following this flagging to provide much better access to The Flatiron and Hemp Falls.
